MILITZA ORTIZ JEWELLERY, A SMALL JEWELLERY BUSINESS IN THE UK

MEET MILITZA

I have been making jewellery for over 17 years, for me it is an escape from the real world. The first time I soldered using a blow torch I realised I had opened up a world of endless possibilities within a creative outlet. Jewellery is the perfect place for me as it is situated somewhere between fashion, art and craftsmanship. After many years in the corporate world, I realised I wanted to create something that would be treasured for its fine craftsmanship and timeless unique style - unique and beautiful jewellery that would last forever, a future heirloom that would mark memories - so in 2003 Militza Ortiz Jewellery was born.

I design and create each piece of handcrafted jewellery, giving attention to every little detail, and offering personal, one of a kind jewellery services from my studio.

 ETHOS & SUSTAINABILITY

Ethical jewellery in the UK

I believe that jewellery should be unique in its character, just like the individuals who cherish the memories they hold. That's why I treat materials with respect, celebrating their particular character and highlighting their special qualities, whether these are unusual gemstones or precious metals. Because of the techniques I use, 80% of pieces are made with recycled sterling silver and gold.

For me encouraging conscious consumption is a key part of sustainability and by producing timeless, high quality pieces I am doing so. I believe that sustainability means ethical manufacturing, every one of my pieces is made by myself and the best craftsmen in London who work hard to keep alive this dying trade in the UK. They are treated fairly, with respect and are paid well for what they do.

I believe in offering a personal experience and service to my customers and I cherish the relationships I form through the jewels we share a passion for.

“ It’s behind the scenes working away, creating deeply personal jewellery, that I am happiest. Jewellery has always provided a talismatic purpose but some of my pieces contain something private, an intimate possession and a riddle for the admirer”

MY INSPIRATION

Looking at my work you can see I have a strong attachment to my Venezuelan roots.  Growing up with the Caribbean as my playground and all the wonders of the natural world that surround me.  I am fascinated by the minute intricacies of the underwater world, those that draw your eye in and let you lose yourself in them.

I love being able to work in such rigid, yet noble materials like gold and silver to create organic forms.  To be able to include precious stones and let them take me on a creative journey of how they should be presented to the world. I believe that the stones should be allowed to speak for themselves, as they are inspiration sources of their own.

I am constantly humbled and rewarded by the thought of each piece of individual jewellery going on to tell its own story, becoming so loved and treasured by the person wearing it and generations to come.
