Bespoke wedding rings: organic platinum designs for a St. Andrews Wedding.

The platinum weddings rings.

They say distances don’t matter when it comes to true love - and the same is true for the perfect wedding rings. I am, Militza Ortiz and from my studio in Wimbledon, London, I have spent over  20 years envisioning and handcrafting future heirlooms for clients across the globe.

This particular story is a testament to the relationship between myself and a long standing client. Sara, the bride, now lives in bustling heart of New York City, but she returned to her alma mater to celebrate her wedding at the historic university town of St. Andrew’s Scotland. It was a privilege to be part of this journey, working remotely with her and her husband to ensure her wedding bands were as beautiful as the setting of their big day.

You see - I have know the couple since they started uni as she was my daughter’s flatmate for most of their studies.  Watching them grow as a couple and as people has been a real joy.

Perfectly complimenting!

The Brief: A wedding ring to compliment a classic solitaire engagement ring

The bride has always been drawn to organic shapes and textures, which is a signature of my work. She already possessed a stunning engagement ring - a classic, simple platinum band featuring a magnificent 2 carat diamond.

The challenge? She did not want a “standard” wedding band that would disappear beneath the diamond.  She needed a ring that:

  • Complemented the oval silhouette of her engagement ring.

  • Sat comfortably and flush against the existing setting.

  • Held its own as a beautiful, standalone piece of jewellery for the days she chose not to wear her larger diamond.

For the groom, the brief was a different kind of challenge. Having never worn a ring before, his top priority was comfort, but without compressing in style.  He wanted something understated and simple, yet with a refined touch of craftsmanship that felt intentional rather than mass produced.

The Design Approach: Rings with Playful shapes and subtle details

When designing the bride’s ring, I decided to play with geometry. Taking cues from the soft curves of her oval diamond, I introduced a series of delicate ovals and circles into the ring. By echoing the oval theme in her engagement ring, the wedding band became an interesting piece of sculpture in its own right.

Because a 2-carat diamond is a significant stone, many brides find they occasionally want to leave the engagement ring at home—whether for travel, sport, or work. I wanted to ensure that when she did, her wedding band remained a unique and beautiful statement of her style.

For the groom’s band, the focus was entirely on the ergonomics of the "Court" fit. A court-shaped profile is domed on the inside, reducing the surface area against the skin and making it the most comfortable choice for those unaccustomed to wearing jewellery. To give it a modern edge, we chose a sophisticated matt finish on the exterior, contrasted beautifully by a high-polish finish on the edges and the interior. It was simple, yet distinctly bespoke.

The Crafting Process: Between Wimbledon and Hatton Garden

Distance was no barrier to quality. Even with the couple in New York, we used virtual consultations and precision measurements to ensure a perfect fit.

As with all my commissions, the process began in my Wimbledon workshop. I take great pride in the fact that every piece is 100% British-made. I work closely with the master craftsmen in Hatton Garden—London’s historic jewellery heart—to ensure the casting and finishing are of the highest possible standard. Every ring is then sent to the London Assay Office to be hallmarked, providing a guarantee of the metal's purity.

The Result: A St Andrews Fairytale Wedding

The rings made their debut at their wedding against the breathtaking backdrop of St Andrews. It was the perfect setting for a couple revisiting the place where their story began before returning to their life in New York. The contrast of the ancient Scottish stone and the beauty of the bride and groom was truly special.

On a daily basis, I get so many compliments on my ring. They are the prettiest rings; we absolutely love them!
