Celebrating 30 Years of Marriage: Reimagining the Pearl Anniversary
Baroque pearls are great alternative.
Thirty years of marriage is a remarkable milestone. If you were married in the 1990s—like my clients, F&A—you have navigated three decades of immense change. You’ve weathered the trials and celebrated the triumphs of building professional careers against the backdrop of the UK’s economic shifts, from periods of rapid growth to challenging downturns. Balancing that professional ambition with the realities of raising a family and caring for ageing parents, all while growing as a couple, is no small feat. It is a true testament to the strength of your partnership
As a Wimbledon-based jeweller with over 20 years of experience, I have seen many relationships evolve over the decades. I consider hitting that 30-year mark a true achievement—one that deserves to be celebrated with something equally as enduring.
A bold and beautiful statement bracelet.
Why Pearls are the Perfect Symbol for a 30 Year anniversary
Thirty years of marriage is a significant milestone, representing three decades of endurance, wisdom, and growth. It is fitting that the pearl is the traditional gemstone for this anniversary; much like a long marriage, a pearl is formed layer by layer, slowly and naturally over time.
It is a process that builds strength and resilience, much like the way a relationship deepens through the years. Each layer reflects the shared experiences and challenges that have built your partnership into something unique—a quiet, enduring symbol of your time together.
The Brief: A Modern Take on Tradition pearls
My client, A, wanted to surprise his wife for their 30th wedding anniversary. He knew he wanted a pearl gift, but he faced a challenge: his wife is incredibly glamorous, youthful, and vibrant. She certainly didn't need a "frumpy" strand of pearls; she needed something that reflected her style.
He entrusted me with the task of creating something that honoured the pearl tradition but felt refreshingly modern and chic.
It all starts with a few sketchings.
The Approach: Choosing Baroque Pearls
To steer away from the predictable and traditional round pearl necklace, I sourced a collection of beautiful, unique baroque pearls.
Baroque pearls are having a wonderful moment in the fashion world, and for good reason. Unlike perfectly spherical pearls, baroque pearls come in organic, natural shapes. Each one is entirely different and unpredictable, making them the perfect choice for a woman who wants to make a personal style statement.
Rather than a traditional necklace, we decided to create a bespoke set comprising statement earrings and a bracelet.
9 carat gold to be used to make the earrings.
The Results: A Bespoke 30th Anniversary Baroque Pearl Set
The bracelet became the focal point of the design. I strung these unconventional, organic pearls on silk thread, finished with traditional hand-knotted detailing between each pearl and a large, round gold clasp to add a touch of glamour.
To complement the bracelet, I designed a pair of earrings using 9-carat yellow gold. I incorporated a circle element to mirror the gold clasp, choosing slightly smaller baroque pearls to ensure the earrings remained comfortable and lightweight.
I am delighted to report that she absolutely loved the gift.
Commission Your Own Bespoke Wedding Anniversary Jewellery
When you reach your 30th wedding anniversary, you realise that each year with your life partner is unique. Baroque pearls don’t just signify the passage of time; they represent the ups and downs of a lifetime spent together—a beautiful symbol of strength, resilience, and wisdom.
A bespoke anniversary piece is so much more than jewellery; it is a unique celebration of your story. The process is one of genuine collaboration, requiring patience and meticulous attention to detail. My favourite part of the journey is getting to know you—learning the story behind your commission and translating those personal details into a design that is truly yours.
The real magic, however, happens when the piece leaves our Wimbledon studio to create new memories with its owner; memories I hope will be cherished and passed down through generations.
The earrings are simple yet unique.
